My Counseling Philosophy

Aly is passionate in helping couples and individuals get to a place of restoration and recovery. She also specializes in the treatment of eating disorders (anorexia, bulimia, orthorexia, BED, EDNOS, etc.) and/or addictions.  The presence of an eating disorder and/or addiction in a relationship can greatly disrupt the couple’s level of intimacy and transparency.  She works along side of individuals to regain a healthy relationship with food and weight. For all couples counseling Aly uses Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to help couples get to a place of connectivity. EFT is the gold standard in couples counseling and utilizes a method that works.

She also works with individuals with and without eating disorders and/or addictions. She recognizes the importance of individuality and that there is no “one-size-fits-all” treatment plan.

She utilizes a strength-based approach to help clients to identify their unique strengths and thought processes to create an individualized treatment plan that will best fit their unique needs. Aly enjoys walking alongside of client’s during their journey to healing.

Experience

Aly has experience working with a wide variety of diverse populations. She has worked with adolescents and teens struggling with depression, anxiety, bipolar, ADD, suicidal thoughts and self-injurious behaviors. Aly also has experience working with incarcerated individuals struggling with mental illness and/or substance abuse in addition to working in crisis intervention settings with those going through the detox process. She has several years’ experience working with individuals receiving hospice services and their families by helping them navigate the process of bereavement. Lastly, Aly has worked with individuals who have been diagnosed with cognitive impairments such as dementia, Lewy-body dementia, Alzheimer’s disease and traumatic brain injuries (TBI’s). During this time, she focused on treating not only the individual with the diagnosis, but also the individual’s family. She worked to help facilitate the process of re-establishing/creating family norms and relationship rule change and life adjustments.
