Where you look affects how you feel

Brainspotting is a brain-body therapy developed by Dr. David Grand in 2003. It is based on the observation that where we direct our eyes is connected to what we feel. When you think about something painful, certain eye positions can bring up a stronger response in your body.

Missy is trained in Brainspotting. In a session, she helps you find a “brainspot,” an eye position connected to the issue you are working on. You hold your gaze there while noticing what comes up in your body, with Missy closely attuned to you the whole time. This focused attention helps the brain process experiences that talking alone may not reach.

Brainspotting can help with:

  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Grief and loss
  • Physical symptoms connected to stress
  • Feeling stuck despite years of talk therapy
  • Performance and creativity blocks
  • Reactions that feel bigger than the situation

What to expect

Brainspotting is gentle and goes at your pace. You don’t have to describe every detail of a painful memory for it to help. It can be used on its own or alongside individual counseling or trauma treatment. Brainspotting is a newer approach and research on it is still growing, but many clients find it a meaningful part of their healing.
